Gearbox Torque Limiter

The gearbox torque limiter from Shanghai Jiteng Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. is an all-mechanical overload protection device specially designed for reducer and gearbox drive systems. It is widely installed in the drive train between the motor and gearbox, or between the gearbox and the load.

When the equipment encounters stalling, material jamming, impact loads, or sudden overload during operation, the Gearbox Torque Limiter instantly slips to release the overload torque and disconnect the drive. This effectively protects the gearbox gears, drive shafts, bearings, and the entire transmission structure, completely eliminating major failures such as shaft breakage, gear tooth fracture, and housing cracking, thereby significantly reducing equipment downtime and maintenance costs.

- The safety coupling is made of fully turned steel, and the shims are manufactured using a full turning process.

- The torque limiter surface undergoes standard phosphate treatment.

- Compact solution.

- This model is suitable for IEC motors.

- Bidirectional protection.

- Instant disengagement in case of overload.

- Fast and simple calibration using our "H" dimensional program.

FAQ

Q1: Which series are included in this Gearbox Torque Limiter product line, and what are the differences between them?

A: Our company's specialized gearbox torque limiters are primarily categorized into three main series, designed to accommodate various mounting structures and protection modes:

The JTA/JTA-SR series features a zero-backlash steel ball disengagement mechanism; upon overload, the driving and driven ends completely disengage. It covers a torque range of 3–720 Nm, with a maximum bore diameter of 48 mm.

The DF/TAC/PR-V series utilizes a friction-slip chain structure, capable of sustaining static torque loads without disengaging. It offers a torque range of 1–1200 Nm, with bore diameters reaching up to 55 mm.

The DF/PR series can be directly embedded and mounted onto the output shaft of hollow-shaft gearboxes. Specific models support torque capacities of up to 2600 Nm, making them ideal for high-torque, heavy-duty gearbox applications.

Q2: Which motor specifications are compatible, and what mounting positions are supported?

A: All series come standard with aluminum alloy connection flanges, providing native compatibility with mainstream IEC-standard motors available on the market; the steel-ball models can also be customized to fit NEMA-standard motors. Typically, there are two mounting methods: they can be installed between the motor and the gearbox using a B5 flange adapter, or—in the case of the specialized DF/PR models—they can be directly embedded and assembled onto the output shaft of a hollow-shaft gearbox. The overall structure is compact, requiring no excessive installation space; furthermore, retrofitting existing equipment requires no major modifications to the existing transmission structure.

Q3: How is the device reset after an overload event, and is the torque threshold adjustment process complicated?

A: The disengagement-type versions support 360° single-point alignment resetting, offering simple and convenient operation. The friction-type versions provide continuous slipping to buffer against overload conditions. The products feature an exclusive "H-dimension" calibration procedure, allowing for torque calibration to be completed simply by sliding the transmission components—without the need to disassemble the entire transmission train.

Q4: What is the surface finish and material quality like?

A: The Gearbox Torque Limiter is precision-machined from solid steel, featuring an integrally turned spacer; its surface undergoes a standardized phosphating treatment for rust prevention. The flange components are constructed from galvanized steel, offering high corrosion resistance.

Q5: Do you offer personalized customization services?

A: Yes, our company offers a wide range of non-standard customization services to meet specific requirements. Friction linings with varying properties can be interchanged to suit specific customer operating conditions. The corrosion-resistant treatment process has been enhanced to accommodate use in humid or corrosive specialized workshop environments. Each unit is factory-calibrated for torque, allowing for immediate installation and operation upon delivery, thereby eliminating the need for on-site commissioning. Furthermore, select models can be fitted with radial locking nuts or adapted with alternative connecting components to ensure comprehensive compatibility with a wide range of non-standard gearboxes and specialized operational equipment.
