Diaphragm Coupling

This coupling consists of several sets of diaphragms (thin stainless steel sheets) that are bolted in an alternating pattern to the two coupling hubs. Each diaphragm set is composed of multiple stacked sheets; these diaphragms are available in two configurations: a link-rod type and various shapes of solid-sheet types.

Our diaphragm couplings consist of several sets of thin stainless steel diaphragms (stacked together, available in link-style and single-piece configurations) bolted alternately to the two coupling hubs. They compensate for the relative displacement between two shafts through the elastic deformation of the diaphragms. Featuring a lubrication-free design, compact structure, high strength, and corrosion resistance, these couplings are suitable for a wide range of harsh operating conditions; moreover, they are easier to maintain than gear couplings and enjoy widespread application.


Product Features

The Diaphragm Coupling compensates for the relative displacement between two connected shafts through the elastic deformation of its diaphragms. It is a high-performance, flexible coupling utilizing metal elastic elements. Key features include: no need for lubrication; a compact structure; high strength; a long service life; zero rotational backlash; and immunity to the effects of temperature fluctuations and oil contamination. Furthermore, it exhibits excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, and general corrosion, making it ideally suited for shaft transmission systems operating in environments characterized by high temperatures, high rotational speeds, or the presence of corrosive media.


Application Scenarios

The Diaphragm Coupling is widely applicable to shaft transmission systems across a diverse range of mechanical equipment. These include water pumps (particularly high-power and chemical pumps), fans (especially high-speed models), compressors, hydraulic machinery, petroleum machinery, printing machinery, textile machinery, chemical machinery, mining machinery, metallurgical machinery, and aerospace applications (such as helicopters). It is also utilized in high-speed power transmission systems for marine vessels, steam turbines, piston-driven power machinery, tracked vehicles, and high-speed, high-power mechanical transmission systems for generator sets. Following dynamic balancing, its application in high-speed transmission shaft systems has become a common and established practice.


Product Advantages

Compared to traditional gear couplings, the Diaphragm Coupling eliminates relative sliding between components. Consequently, it requires no lubrication or sealing, operates silently, demands virtually no maintenance, and is relatively simple to manufacture; it can effectively serve as a substitute for gear couplings in many applications. In practical engineering applications, the design incorporating an intermediate shaft is generally preferred, as this configuration significantly enhances the coupling's capacity to compensate for axial and radial misalignments between the two connected shafts.
