Coupling / Coupling shaft, used to connect two shafts (the driving shaft + the driven shaft), for transmitting torque and motion, is a core component of the transmission system.

Transmitting Power: Core function, transmitting torque and speed in a coaxial manner.

Compensating Deviations: Mitigating radial, axial, and angular misalignment of the two shafts to avoid additional stress on the shafts and bearings.

Common Types, Characteristics + Application Scenarios 

1. Rigid Coupling

Features: Simple structure, high stiffness, no compensation capability, high transmission accuracy, small size.

Applications: Scenarios with extremely high two-axis alignment accuracy and no vibration; water pumps, fans, precision machine tools, and low-speed heavy-load equipment.


2. Pin & Bush Coupling

Features: Simple structure, low price, with slight shock absorption + small deviation compensation, prone to wear.

Applications: General machinery, conveyors, pumps, ordinary motor drives, for medium to small torque and common working conditions.


3. Nylon Coupling

Features: Nylon pin shafts provide cushioning, are wear-resistant, have a longer service life, and have better compensation capacity than pin shaft sleeves.

Applications: Lifting machinery, metallurgical equipment, air compressors, medium and high-speed transmissions.


4. Jaw Coupling

Features: Compact, good shock absorption, fast response, easy to disassemble and assemble, allowing a certain alignment deviation.

Applications: Servo motors, stepper motors, automation equipment, CNC machines, small reducers.


5. Diaphragm Coupling

Features: Metal diaphragm transmission, high precision, high rotational speed, zero clearance, high temperature resistance, no wear.

Applications: High-speed equipment, precise transmission, chemical pumps, steam turbines, servo/numerical control high-end equipment.


6. Universal Joint

Features: Capable of achieving large-angle deflection, and can transmit power even when the angle between the two axes is large.

Applications: Automotive transmission shafts, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, and mechanisms with significant angle deviations.


7. Oldham Coupling

Features: Strong radial deviation compensation capability, simple structure, and shock resistance.

Applications: Textile machinery, packaging equipment, low-speed high-torque scenarios.
